Edo Japan was founded in 1979, in Calgary Alberta by a Japanese Buddhist minister named Susumu Ikuta. His idea to serve traditional Teppan-style meals caught on and today there are over 100 food court and storefront locations in Canada. Their meals are served with their signature Teriyaki sauce which remains a carefully guarded secret recipe. In 2006, the menu expanded to include a selection of fresh sushi. Edo Japan uses only quality, fresh, natural ingredients. Tom Donaldson acquired ownership of the company in 2001 and has since been honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Hospitality and Tourism division.
